This is a traditional door from Gujarat in West India. The carving is of very good quality and the door is colorfully painted. All houses in Gujarat are painted during Diwali (the Festival of Light); this door was probably painted during this festival. There are eight panels on the door, each carved panel beautifully depicting different representations of Ganesh. The frame is completely carved with patterns of Ganesh’s vehicle, the rat, intertwined with a leafy vine. This is a very unique and festive door.
This wooden door from India is between 80-100 years old. It was made by skilled craftsmen from solid Teak and carved with traditional Mughal patterns and metalwork. This door combines strength for security along with artistry for beauty and devotion. It is offered in its original condition, which shows normal wear and original paint.
